2021 September Update
Ah, September. Simultaneously a month that includes the last delicious bits of summer, the first delicious bits of fall, and an almost irresistible urge to buy new binders… even if you don’t know anyone going back to school and haven’t used real paper in years.
As we reminded you last month, September can be anything you want it to be. For your Spring team, it’s become an unofficial New Year, a time to evaluate how we’ve done with all the hopes and dreams we had for ourselves and our clients at the beginning of the year, a time to refresh and reset our goals, and a last burst of energy to get us through the (always-busy) fall income-planning season and through to the end of another year.
If you’re not in the habit of pausing to reflect on what you’ve accomplished recently, or are deeply uncomfortable with the very idea of celebrating your own success (whatever that might look like), we highly recommend that you read this month’s Values article, which is all about the value of achievement and success.
The truth is that we’ve all accomplished something pretty remarkable, just by continuing to show up after an exhausting 18 months of pandemic living. Parents of school-aged children faced with yet another uncertain school year are accomplishing the impossible every day… just by getting out of bed at this point, quite frankly. If you can find a way to celebrate yourself, even if it’s small (or big like you deserve), DO IT.
For those of you eager to evaluate how the markets have done recently, we’ll be hosting another Quarterly Market Update with Darryl Brown on October 21st. Be sure to register early and send Darryl your questions for this in-demand presentation.
We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
Sandi is now back in the office on Wednesdays (until next summer), but will be off September 27th through October 1st to rest up for the breakneck pace the last three months of the year always has in store.
Darryl has an extra long weekend from October 7th through 11th, with the entire Spring team joining him in taking October 11th off.
“Free” Fridays remain booked permanently in our calendars. These days are free to us at Spring in the sense that they’re our opportunity to work on becoming better planners, whether through collaboration and discussion, education, research, or even a little downtime. It’s been a regular practice since the summer of 2017, and we will continue to set aside the time to become better versions of ourselves every week. Even 1% better is solidly worth it, because we know that will be reflected in the work we do for you.
Spring in the News:
Sandi wrote an article for Canadian MoneySaver about getting the most out of RESPs no matter what your financial circumstances are. Subscribers to the magazine will find RESPs for Any Situation in their September issue.
Planning News Digest:
Do you own a family business that you plan to pass on to the next generation? Read about how recent changes to the law will affect you in Family businesses are built to be passed on. That just got easier and less costly.
From Around the Web:
We all need to think about retirement planning at some point in our lives. Relying on guidelines like saving 10% of your income or withdrawing 4% of your savings can get you part way there. But it’s also important to think about what retirement will look like for you. Here are some ideas to help you think about retirement planning, no matter what age and stage you’re at today.
